Tell Me · last updated 28 September 2026

Tell Me is a task and time tracker used by a team at work. Everything in it is put there by that team, it is only visible inside that team's workspace, and none of it is sold, shared with advertisers, or used to build a profile of anyone.

What the app collects

Only what a task tracker needs to work. There is no analytics SDK, no advertising SDK, and no third-party tracker of any kind in the app.

WhatWhy
Your name, and a nickname if you set oneSo work can be assigned to you and your teammates know who did what.
Your passwordStored only as a scrypt hash with a per-account salt — never as text we or anyone else can read.
A profile photo, if you upload oneShown next to your name in the app. Optional.
Your work: tasks, notes, checklists, comments, chat messages and any files you attachThis is the app. It's visible to your workspace.
Time you log, and time off you requestReporting on hours worked, which is what the app is for.
A record of changes — who changed what, and whenSo a team can see the history of a task rather than argue about it.
A device token, if you turn on notificationsThe only way Apple (on iPhone and iPad) or Google (on Android) will deliver a notification to your phone. Deleted when you turn notifications off, sign out, or delete your account.

We do not collect an email address, a phone number, your contacts, your location, your health data, or your advertising identifier. The app never asks for them and there is nowhere to put them.

What the app does not do

Who can see your data

Each workspace is separate, and the app enforces that on every single request — data from one workspace is never reachable from another.

Notifications

Notifications are off until you turn them on, and your phone asks you first. When you do, the app registers a device token with Apple (on iPhone and iPad) or Google (on Android) and stores it against your account so the server can send you a notification when you're mentioned, when work needs your approval, or when your own request is answered. The content of a notification travels through Apple's Push Notification service or Google's Firebase Cloud Messaging, which is what makes delivery possible on each.

What's stored on your phone

So that the app works with no signal, it keeps a copy of your most recent workspace data on the device, along with any changes you made offline that haven't been sent yet. Both are deleted when you sign out. Your sign-in token is kept in the iOS Keychain, or on Android in storage encrypted with a key held by the Android Keystore — not in ordinary app storage.

If you turn on Face ID (or your Android phone's fingerprint or face unlock) in Settings, the app asks the phone to confirm it's you before it opens. The app never receives your face or fingerprint data — only a yes or no from the system.

If you use dictation when adding a task on an iPhone or iPad, iOS asks for the microphone and speech recognition first. Your speech is turned into text by Apple's speech recognition; Tell Me receives only the resulting text, which becomes part of the task. Tell Me does not record or store audio.

Where it's kept

Your workspace's data is held in the Tell Me server's database, operated by Ali Yasser on cloud hosting infrastructure. Connections between the app and the server are encrypted with HTTPS. Access to the server is limited to the people who operate the service.

How long it's kept

Until it's deleted. Your work stays in your workspace so the team's history stays intact — there is no automatic expiry, because a team that loses last quarter's records to a retention timer has been badly served by its tools.

Deleting your account

You can delete your own account from inside the app: Settings → Account → Delete my account. It removes your account, your profile photo, your tasks, your time logs, your comments, your chat messages and your notification tokens. It cannot be undone, and the app says so before it does it.

One exception, and it is deliberate: if you are your workspace's manager you must hand that role to someone else first, because a workspace with no manager leaves everyone else unable to get their work approved.

If you can't open the app, or no longer have it, email us at the address below from the workspace and name you sign in with, and we'll delete the account for you.

To have an entire workspace deleted, ask us at the address below.

Children

Tell Me is a tool for people at work and is not directed at children. We don't knowingly collect anything from a child under 13.

Changes to this policy
